Would I ever complain about hot weather in England? I am supposed to be used to scorching mediterranean heat but yes, last weekend I COMPLAINED about hot weather A LOT. I want to be clear here, I am not talking about 23C or 25C, I am talking about 30C (86F) with sticky humid air. Any other summer I would be delighted with such a great weather, but not this year. This summer will be so different for us. We are not travelling to Slovenia, we are staying at home and not going anywhere. The reason?
We are expecting another baby. And he (yes he) has chosen to come to this world in this heat. Good timing for him and for me really! With a “huge” bump it is really difficult to survive even one hot day and I haven’t even said anything about nights yet.
Last Saturday we even couldn’t make out our minds what to do in such a heat. I was not prepared to go out at all, but our daughter desperately wanted to spend the day outdoors. My husband suggested visiting Swinley Forest – this is a big area (11 square km) of woodland owned and managed by Windsor family (yes, English queen owns this huge woodland). And you know what, it was not a bad idea at all!
The woods are zigzagged with footpaths and provide some of the best mountain biking in the South East of England. There is a big children playground too, and we stayed there for quite some time. It really was fabulous. Pine trees provide fantastic shade and ice cream made the whole situation even more tolerable. Late in the afternoon we did a long walk through the woods and even my “big bump” didn’t mind it 🙂
On the way home my husband saw people sitting outside some fantastically beautiful English pubs and just couldn’t resist suggesting another great idea. We pulled over to have a drink in one of these great local pubs and after about an hour of smelling all the yummy food that was always carried past our table we ordered some as well, as you can imagine. The food was lovely and this pub visit was just such a perfect end to a very hot day. How could we ever wish for more?
